HOW TO STYLE MODEST OUTFITS

HOW TO STYLE MODEST OUTFITS

Wear That personal stylist, Malak, is a pro when it comes to taking the season’s hottest trends and giving them a modest spin. Whether it’s covering cut-outs with a waist belt, or layering a turtleneck under almost anything, here’s a roundup of her favorite covered looks to inspire your own conservative style.

COVER UP CUT-OUTS

Have you ever found the perfect dress for you, only to discover it has midriff cut-outs and is actually way too revealing for your style? Malak to the rescue. As someone who likes to switch between modest and non-modest styling, Malak shows there’s two ways to wear such a dress. By taking a wide belt, simple layer over the cut-outs and you’ll be none the wiser. You could also use a silk scarf for the same effect.

USE A TURTLE NECK AS A BASE

A chic black or white turtleneck can be your ticket to transforming multiple tops you previously categorized as ‘too skimpy’. Layer yours under everything from structured white shirts, corsets or band t-shirts for a contemporary layered look that feels modern and cool. This is a wardrobe staple you won’t regret buying!

LOOSE & LUXE SETS

Now this is the comfy way to wear suits. If you’re looking for an alternative to sharp and fitted tailoring, then silky pajama sets are a must. The fluid silhouette and loose fit will skim your shape rather than cling to it for a relaxed but polished finish.

BLAZER AND SKIRT COMBO

If you find some pieces too figure hugging but still want to create a feminine shape, Malak recommends taking your favorite double breasted blazer and belting it over a flared feminine skirt. As a finishing touch, I like to slouch the sleeves up but this is optional!

JUST ADD SEQUINS

If you want to inject some glamor into your outfit STAT, but sequin maxis feel too formal, let a blazer be your go-to. “I love how a sequin blazer takes this all-white look into disco territory,” says Malak. “Often during party season, the shops are full of shining mini skirts which aren’t right for so many of my clients, so I always suggest adding a finishing layer of sequins instead.”
