LIYA ANSWERS YOUR PERSONAL STYLING QUESTIONS

As we prepare to head back to the office after a long summer, many of us are feeling the need for a 9-5 style refresh. If you are feeling uninspired by your current wardrobe, you are in the right place! In any case, with a new season, comes much needed change and it is most definitely time to shake things up! To help you get out of your style rut and into something that makes you feel confident and professional, I’m excited to share a Q&A session with Liya, one of our styling Director at Wear That.

Customer: Liya, I feel like I’m stuck in a style rut after working from home for so long. How can I start dressing for the office again without feeling overwhelmed?

Liya: It’s totally normal to feel this way after the summer time! They don't call them post-summer blues for no reason! That being said, how you dress to work will make a huge difference in how you feel as you get back into the groove! The key is to ease back into your work wardrobe gradually. Start by identifying your favorite pieces from your work wardrobe—those items that make you feel confident and put-together. Mix those with more of the versatile pieces that you’ve enjoyed wearing in more casual settings (simple white t-shirts, loose black trousers, silky skirts). Working a very corporate job? Incorporate color into your suits, and go as bold as the business lets you! By making these changes, you’ll create a bridge between the two worlds, making the transition feel more natural.

Customer: I’ve noticed my work outfits are starting to feel a bit boring. How can I add some excitement to my wardrobe without going overboard?

Liya: Great question! Adding a pop of excitement doesn’t have to be drastic. Start with accessories—statement necklaces, bold earrings, or a colorful scarf can instantly elevate your look. Also, consider playing with textures and patterns. A structured blazer in a fun print or a silk blouse in a vibrant color can make a big difference without feeling too bold. Remember, it’s all about finding that balance where you feel comfortable yet stylish.

Customer: I’m worried that my current wardrobe feels outdated. What are some modern pieces I should consider adding to freshen things up?

Liya: Updating your wardrobe doesn’t mean you need to start from scratch. Look for modern pieces that can easily integrate with what you already own. A few trends to consider are high-waisted trousers, oversized blazers, and midi skirts—they’re versatile, chic, and can be dressed up or down. Also, consider adding a pair of t-bar heels, glove style flats and a new work bag (perhaps in burgundy!) —each of these are stylish yet comfortable, perfect for the office.

Customer: I’ve always stuck to neutral colors because they’re easy, but I’m feeling like I need a change. How can I introduce color into my work wardrobe?

Liya: Neutrals are classic, but a little color can do wonders for your mood and style. Start small by incorporating a single colorful piece into your outfit, like a bright blouse or a vibrant handbag. As you get more comfortable, you can experiment with color blocking or adding a bold piece, like a colored blazer or patterned pants. Remember, color can be a great way to express your personality and energy, so don’t be afraid to have fun with it. All that being said, I would not completely rule out those neutrals - earthy tones are this season’s MVP.

Customer: I’m not sure how to balance comfort and style now that I’m used to dressing more casually. What’s your advice for staying comfortable yet looking professional?

Liya: Comfort doesn’t have to come at the expense of style. Look for pieces that offer both, like tailored pants with a bit of stretch, soft-knit blazers, or dresses in breathable fabrics. Layering can also help you strike the right balance—a chic cardigan over a structured top can give you that polished look while still being cozy. Also, don’t underestimate the power of well-fitting shoes. A pair of stylish flats or low heels can keep you comfortable all day without sacrificing style.

Feeling stuck in a style rut is more common than you think, especially as we transition back into the office after a summer of fun. With Liya’s tips, you can refresh your wardrobe, inject some excitement into your style, and step into the office feeling confident and ready to take on whatever comes your way. Ready to get started? Let’s transform your back-to-work wardrobe together!
